Friday play date......

Every Tuesday Bella goes to Sam`s house to play after school. Every Friday Sam comes here to play. He really enjoys helping me with dinner and cooking so this morning, I told Bella when they came home I would have them make homemade pasta for tonight`s dinner. Well by the time they got home, Bella didn`t want to mess with the stuff but Sam did. So, he and I started the work. Pasta is a very simple recipe that doesn`t need measurement and is very easy to perfect. 2 cups flour, two eggs and I use Egg Beaters to make up any difference in texture. I used about another 1/2 cup of egg beaters to make the right texture. I mixed all this up in the food processor with the dough hook until it was thoroughly mixed and made moist. Then I dumped it out onto the board and called the sous chef over. I explained how to knead the dough and he got to work. This is the picture to the right.
Next we got out the pasta machine. We let the dough rest for about 20-30 minutes. You know it`s ready when you poke it and it kinda springs back to it`s original shape. We divided the dough into 8 equal parts and got started. You turn the width to number 1 and run the section of dough through the machine 2-3 times and change the width to the next number. I usually do this until 7 or 8 and then use the cutting tool on the machine. We cut the noodles to fettucini size and set them to dry on the yarn swift. You heard me! What else would I use?
The kids were dying to cut the past to angel hair size. This is too much for me because with homemade pasta, it would clump too much and I just wasn`t prepared. So, Bella went in her room and got the 40 little things of Play Do out of her room that were left over from her birthday party and asked if they could run them through the pasta machine. What could I say? Sure!
Ok, so here`s the thing. Last time I used my pasta machine I forgot that I broke it and it won`t stay securely clamped to my counter. So I had to hold it while the kinds cranked it. Therefore, I couldn`t take pictures like I wanted to. To my great happiness and joy, Sam`s mom came over to get him and picked up my camera and shot away. She rocks! most of the pictures with the kids and the pasta machine are taken by Carol. She is an amazing photographer and I love her eye! Here is one of my favorites.
I totally love that you can see his smile here.
This next one is awesome too. They were dying to cut as angel hair so they would steal the edge pieces and ball them up and run them through the angel hair cutter. But look at their expressions. They totally got along during this which is a hit and miss typically.
