| SuperTT Main Event, A View from the Mastiff From a third row start, turn one became really exciting as a riderless KTM split the field and forced me and some others straight off into the grass! Passing a couple of guys right away helped a lot and once the race settled down a bit, I could really concentrate on trying to just put together the fastest laps that I could. | ![]() |
| This MZ handles very well at speed. While leaned way over going up the back hill, the Mastiff was willing to change lines without too much effort. Braking at the end of the longest straight is where most of my time was made up. Those 500cc two strokes would certainly get the drive down the back straight, but the good feel of the Grimeca brakes and the Dunlop 250 GP rain slicks would always equalize their advantage by the time we crossed the Start/Finish line. | ![]() |

| Once that was over with, the track was clear for a while and I could really enjoy getting familiar with this new machine. Riding the 660 single in the dirt section proved to be an acceptable tool to find traction. Torquing through the loose corners at low RPMs really worked the best for me. Controllable slides were had by just dialing the throttle to where you felt right. I had the most fun when transitioning from dirt to pavement completely sideways in second gear, just smoking the rear tire and then nailing third gear and carrying the slide all the way to the outside curb. YEEE-HA! | ![]() |
![]() | Jumping the MZ on the smooth TT style jumps was always controllable. The landings never had any surprises and the suspension never bottomed. This motorcycle is a good bike for TT racing as is and can still be ridden to the store. The only modifications to this bike were the removal of the lights, the installation of a front number plate and a fresh set of tires. The fuel was Chevrons best from my corner station. Simple, yet very effective. Oh, and by the way, when you see your buddy kicking the daylights out of his big bore racer trying to start it, tell him to just push the start button on the handlebar....isn't that how they all start? |
